With his collegiate soccer career at Penn State New Kensington complete, Joshua Zakrzewski, administration of justice major at Penn State New Kensington, looks forward to completing his degree at the campus and entering a field within public service.
Penn State New Kensington's Police and Public Safety department held its first "Cram the Cruiser" event on Dec. 11 to collect toys and items for the Valley Points Family YMCA's early learning and school age childcare sites. The collected items were then delivered to the YMCA's New Kensington branch to be sorted for the seven childcare locations.
The fourth annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event was held at Penn State New Kensington on April 16. The event, co-sponsored by the campus' counseling services and athletics departments aimed to bring awareness to the prevention of sexual assault and gender-based violence. Male students, faculty and staff participated by taking part in the high-heeled walk around campus after hearing from a keynote speaker and learning about local support services.
More than 50 Penn State New Kensington students presented their research and projects at the 17th Annual Research and Creative Exposition held at the campus on April 9, 2019. Research topics included such subjects as automation, mammography, mental health, polymers, information recall and biomedical engineering technology. Each student or student team was mentored by faculty advisers, who offered guidance throughout the process.
Nearly 50 Penn State New Kensington students attended the 2019 Leader Launch event organized by the campus' Office of Career Services. The annual conference is a professional development event featuring workshops and a networking dinner with alumni. The goal is for students to strengthen skills such as communication, job searching, career development and networking.
Ashley Traini, class of 2005 and Dewey Traini, class of 2006, first met in 2003 during a student leadership conference at Penn State New Kensington. That meeting would become the first chapter in their Penn State love story, with the campus and student activities providing the perfect setting.
Almost 200 guests joined to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the local community at the annual Celebration of Unity Dinner at Penn State New Kensington. The event, co-sponsored by Hightower Scholars, Inc., also commemorated it's 10th anniversary with the lighting of a unity candle, guest speakers, dinner, a dance performance and readings by essay contest winners from Mary Queen of Apostles school.
More than 50 Penn State students from five campuses took their day off from classes to make it a "day on" for the annual MLK Jr. Day of Service on Jan. 21. The 2019 Penn State New Kensington-hosted event featured volunteerism at six organizations in the Alle-Kiski Valley. In addition to New Kensington, participating campuses included Beaver, Fayette, Greater Allegheny and World Campus.
Mackinly “Mack” Adams hasn’t been in a real classroom since the fourth grade. The Arnold, Pennsylvania, native was diagnosed with a rare form of actinic prurigo, a disease that causes severe reactions to sunlight and ultraviolet (UV) light. Adams dreamed of having a real college experience, and Penn State New Kensington was able to make the goal a reality.
